My academic roots are in psychology and my experience is in education.
This degree in Psychology with Child Development and Language Acquisition has provided a solid foundation for a career in education, which has centered around supporting children with additional learning needs.
With training and experience as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), I have been assessing children and young people in schools for over 10 years, working for the local authority and independently.
I work in Primary, Secondary and SEND settings with children from 4 to 18 years old. I passionately believe that every child has the right to reach their full potential and that learning needs should be viewed as a difference not a deficit.
Our understanding of the brain and how we each learn is constantly evolving. With this comes a better awareness that requiring some additional support with learning is not an indication of intelligence. By assessing the strengths and weaknesses in how we each learn, we can open doors to more opportunities.
